Germarostes (лат.) — род жуков-гибосорид из подсемейства Ceratocanthinae (Hybosoridae). Южная Америка. Около 70 видов.

Описание

Мелкие жуки-гибосориды (около 5 мм). Голова неравномерно субпентагональная (передний край с углом, ограничивающим щёки), дорзум изменчиво скульптурирован. Преимущественно способные к полёту виды, встречающиеся от Канады до Аргентины. Виды с разнообразной морфологией и образуют два плохо определенных подрода: Germarostes s.str. и Haroldostes Paulian, 1982. Вероятно, немонофилетичен. Биология разнообразна, обитают в лесах, саваннах, под пологом, в листовой подстилке, в гнилой древесине или под корой деревьев, иногда в ассоциации с жуками Passalidae. Способны к частичному сворачиванию в шар путем отклонения головы и переднеспинки и прижимания ног^[1]^[2].

Систематика

Род был впервые описан в 1968 году. Включён в состав трибы Ceratocanthini из подсемейства Ceratocanthinae (Hybosoridae)^[1]^[3].
